The concept that I would like to
further talk about after reading the chapter is that of the difference between
punishment and discipline. My whole life I have played baseball and have had
many different coaches who all had their own views on how to treat players. I
have realized that coaches that try to punish you for making mistakes do not truly
get through to their players. We do not learn anything from being put down and
punished. Coaches that have really helped me were hard on me, but at the same
time care about me. They taught me discipline and showed me how to fix my mistakes
rather then punish me for making them. Discipline in life is completely necessary,
without it I don’t even want to them about some of the bad decisions I may have
made. But, I did not learn discipline from being physically punished, I learned
it from caring people showing me the right way and teaching it to me.
